Lumineers – Manhattan, NY

International Lumineers Instructor and Provider

Dental Lumineers® can produce a radiant smile by improving the overall appearance of your teeth. Yet not every cosmetic dentist is experienced in or even offers this highly specialized cosmetic procedure. Smile in the City does, thanks to the advanced training and extensive experience of our prosthodontist, Dr. Nargiz Schmidt. Not only is Dr. Schmidt extremely adept in the procedure, but she underwent hands-on, personal training from the original developer of Lumineers®, Dr. Robert Ibsen. Dr. Schmidt is a leading NYC authority on Lumineers® and lectures internationally to dentists around the world teaching the technique to other dentists.

The result is high-caliber; professional Lumineers® that can transform an embarrassing smile into a brilliant one.

Lumineers: Less Invasive, Minimal-to-No Prep

Lumineer®s are super-thin versions of veneers, which are porcelain coverings for your teeth. Thicker veneers involve the removal of your existing teeth’s sensitive tooth structure to put them in place, a process that can be painful. Lumineers® are usually thin enough to cover your teeth without requiring such a level of destruction or pain.

Because they leave your existing teeth intact, Lumineers® can also be removed without worrying about the state of your teeth beneath them. Most people, however, are happy to leave the Lumineers® permanently in place, and they can usually last upwards of 20 years.

In addition to being thinner than veneers, Lumineers® are usually more resistant to wear and tear. Couple their durability with their translucent, natural-looking appearance and a beautiful smile is easy and painless to achieve.

Procedure for Lumineers

The procedure for Lumineers usually takes two office visits. After a dental consultation, Dr. Schmidt will take an impression of your teeth to send to our authorized Lumineers lab that specializes in their construction. We will also provide the lab with photos and detailed instructions to provide more information to ensure your Lumineers are tailored to your exact needs.

Your second visit with Dr. Schmidt is where she places the Lumineers over your existing teeth. This may involve a gentle etching of your teeth to improve adhesion. Dr. Schmidt then bonds your Lumineers in place with a dental adhesive activated by a curing light. Unlike traditional veneers which, when completed by another qualified clinician, require the removal of precious tooth structure, Lumineers are minimally-invasive and the procedure does not require Dr. Schmidt to manipulate your tooth.

The final stage of the procedure involves Dr. Schmidt carefully checking your bite to make sure its contact points are balanced to decrease the risk of chipping or damage. Neither visit typically involves shots, drilling or temporary coverings, only a pain-free experience that can result in a stunning smile.

You can feel confident in the hands of Dr. Schmidt, as she has placed more than 5,000 Lumineers units.
